That's All She's Got

It was a beautiful summer day, and I was a new rider. My husband, Mark, and I decided to take a ride around what he calls “the section”. Because I was inexperienced, his favorite words were, “That’s all she’s got”. Each time I would experience something new, he laughed and repeated the phrase. This day we were riding along a cornfield, and he was ahead of us about 25-feet.

My horse was apprehensive, one because I was, and two because we were between a canal and the tall corn. Suddenly, she jumped and then I bounced, she turned and bolted toward the canal as she nearly left me behind. Neither one of us understood what we were jumping from, but Mark did. He was ahead laughing as he added, “See she’s bomb-proof” to his earlier repeated phrase, “That’s all she’s got”. Mark had tossed a corncob out into the field!

Another day, after I eventually became courageous enough to lope, my horse stopped short on a mud puddle. We were loping along nice and steady and the next thing I knew, she had halted and practically launched me over the top of her! Mark found this entertaining, as he rattled, “That’s all she’s got”. Half an hour later, we were galloping in a hay pasture and Mark was in the lead. He lifted his hands in the air, as his horse strolled through a wheel-line puddle. "Mud puddle ahead," he said, giggling.

I never knew that riding a horse could be so much tomfoolery, and Mark makes it even more pleasant! I understand that to live with him, you need an appreciation for humor, but if you ride with him, you had better, be equipped. We have a ball riding to town and sharing our experiences. Riding together is a bonding experience for both rider and horse. I adore my horse and my husband, although I am still unaware, of "all they've got".
